Scottie Kent Discusses The Bring Back The Buzz Movement « CBS Charlotte.
Allan Bristow and the people at WFNZ discuss everything from our little movement to get the name back to Charlotte to The glory days of old!
MAKE SURE YOU GIVE IT A LISTEN
***Also tune in to 610 AM tomorrow at 7:30 to hear Scotty talk with the gang about Bring Back The BUZZ***
Michael McCann is a writer for Sports Illustrated and is an NBA TV on-air legal analyst who was was being interviewed by a Seattle sports talk radio station yesterday about the recent news regaurding the Kings staying in Sacramento.
At around 4 minutes the interview turns bittersweet. He explains that the only way Seattle will get their Supersonics back is if another franchise moves to Seattle. He then goes on to list possible teams that could relocate there “Teams like the Bucks, the Grizzlies, the Charlotte Bobcats…soon to be Hornets”.
While we just heard from an NBA TV Legal analyst that the Bobcats were going to be the Hornets, we also just found out that we are being eyed as the new “Sacaramento Kings”. Most likely this will not happen in the near future and he was trying to come up with some warm fuzzies to give the Seattle faithful.
We Beelieve: Charlotte…take back your Hornets! and us have been saying since day one that this rebrand needs to happen to ensure that the NBA stays in Charlotte. However, regaurdless of name this teams belongs to our city and we need to make sure we support them.

This is “Hugo Now”
The Charlotte Bobcats‘ Fred Whitfield was asked by Channel 14 today about the name change and he said the team was still “reviewing” it.
There is no “Keep the Cats” campaign for a reason. This is nothing against the franchise itself but the name means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to our city. We were given a name over 200 years ago and that was the HORNETS! At this point we need to let this franchise know that there is no choice.
I was told by someone in the media that “this movement has created a monster and it would be scary to see what this monster did if it didn’t happen”. We are fans of this team, we just want what belongs to us.
This is happening but they owe it to their fans (customers)/city to let us know.
What we need you to do is….
1) Share this photo on facebook. Simple as that.
2) Remind the Charlotte Bobcats *POLITELY* on facebook, twitter, or email that the time is now. There is absolutely nothing holding them back from announcing they are applying for a name change.
If you are wondering what this is going to accomplish, remember the only reason any of you know about us is because of social media. Social media has gotten this movement all the way to New York Times and ESPN.
It is time to press the restart button and pretend this Bobcats thing never happen.

“What’s In A Name?” is a question that many people have asked us. Here is a piece of our response to that question.
You might not agree with this point but the fact is, reality gives it validity.
A good majority of the vocal supporters of the “Bring Back The Buzz” movement are a part of a generation that were brought to Charlotte Hornet’s games by their parents, grandparents, older siblings, etc. We are the loud ones. We could not vote on the arena issue but loved this team none the less. We are the Bobcat fans asking for a change.
Now the people standing proud behind this movement with a smile on their faces as we attempt to make history are our same parents, grandparents and loved ones. Nothing could be more rewarding than to watch your children fight to carry on the very heritage you passed onto them.
My brother and I have come into contact with hundreds of these people and the story is almost always the same. Once the NBA left Charlotte they quit caring about it and discontinued watching the games. They understand our generations attempt to rekindle what we had as kids but they feel as if the city and the NBA forced an unwanted apology on us (The Bobcats). In their opinion, which is very similar to ours, this franchise has done very little to listen to the people of the city in which it resides. The only thing that could bring them back out to the games would be for this team to rebrand to the Charlotte Hornets. For instance our father, who is very frugal with his money (sorry Dad its true:) and is the one that took my brother, Mom and I to our Hornets games, is very strongly considering season tickets. What he said to the ticket rep was “All you have to say is that we are APPLYING for a name change and I will buy the season tickets.”
A very close friend of ours father was a HUGE Hornets fan and has only gone to one Bobcats game since they’ve been here, that was a SWARM we hosted, said “As soon as they change the name back to the Hornets I will attend as many games as my job allows me to go to!”
Our Mom, Mama Buzz as some of you may know her as, is our BIGGEST supporter and that is because of what the Charlotte Hornets meant historically to this city but most of all to our family. Both our parents are from Pennsylvania but raised us as hardcore Charlotte Hornets fans in case you hadn’t noticed. This is a family issue.
This is a giant demographic whose opinions and wallets cannot be ignored.
We were just interviewed by the wonderful Sarah Batista WBTV from WBTV News and the story will be on tonight at 6.
In other news, as many of you know there is a meeting/cocktail party the Charlotte Bobcats are holding prior to tonight’s game. The party/meeting was by invite only, well one of my good friends happened to be invited and I am their guest. At the meeting they are suppose to be discussing the future of the Bobcats organization.
I will be tweeting live updates from the event on our twitter handle @bringbackthebuz (one “z”).https://twitter.com/BringBackTheBuz
Tonight at 8pm marks the last game the New Orleans Hornets will ever play and once that game is over the Hornets name is officially up for grabs.
Hopefully will be able to welcome Hugo back to his true hive very soon.
Well, like I said earlier I spoke with John Morgan from We Beelieve: Charlotte…take back your Hornets! about the Town Hall meeting. The following points were made….
1) The Charlotte Bobcats word of the night was patience (mentioned at least 10 times)
2) The NBA is on board with the name change and they are just waiting on the Bobcats to make the move.
3) Adam Silver mentioned the “Glory Days” of the Charlotte Hornets 3 times.
4) Adam Silver complimented fellow beeliever on his Larry Johnson shirt and his Charlotte Hornets hat, and the crowd erupted.
5) Adam Silver took a picture holding a “We Beelieve” picture.
6) Adam Silver would love to bring an All Star game back to Charlotte but the Bobcats have not applied.
7) Fred Whitfield said the research is ongoing and no decision has been made about the name change.
8) Silver said if Michael Jordan wants to change name from Bobcats to Hornets it would be an 18-month process.
As you guys know there will be a private presentation to a selected group of people before the Bobcats game on Wednesday before the final game of the season.
I will be present for this one and will be doing something very similar to what We Beelieve. We will be tweeting live from the event on our Twitter page @bringbackthebuz and letting you guys know what is being discussed.
Dear Charlotte,
Many of you may remember, that early on in this adventure, we wrote a letter to Michael Jordan. We inadequately poured out our memories and feeling into a heartfelt plea for the return of the Hornets and asked y’all to do the same. Those letters have been our inspiration. After the last few days, and with the final SWARM fast approaching, we’ve decided to write a letter addressed to those folks who’ve been on this ride with us.
To the pro-Buzz media:
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to listen to the fans and step back and look at the big picture. For many of you this was not simply a jump on the band-wagon and your taking a position involved more than just a bit of professional risk-taking. You’ve been gracious with us neophytes, but always professional. Now that Evan is turning 21 this week,we’d love to sit down and have a couple beers with you.
To the media Buzz killers:
Please accept our deepest apologies for our being thorns in your side. We’re truly saddened for you that the paradigm is shifting away from traditional print journalism. Maybe, just maybe, if we made ANY money at all doing this, and didn’t have to tweet and post between classes or follow the clues on a cracked iphone, we’d care a bit more about a misplaced apostrophe. Seriously, we truly acknowledge your talents and following. It would be no fun without you. Thanks so much for keeping us honest.
To the Bee-lievers:
You are our kindred spirits – you inspire us and keep us going. We love your passion and your wonderful creative ideas. You are the ones who quote Cornwallis and bleed teal and purple. You are and always will be the best and truest fans in the greatest hometown around. Thanks for helping us keep the Buzz alive!
To the naysayers:
You may be right We may be crazy But we’re just the kind of lunatics this town is looking for … (apologies to Billy Joel)
To John Morgan:
Man, thanks for having our back. We both know that it would have been easy to be in competition or at each-others’ throats. Great minds think alike, or perhaps just differently enough to cover the Hornets 2.0 movement from every angle. We hope we’re there to see the look on your face when our collective dream becomes a reality. Besides –we could never rock the white tux the way you do!
To our Friends and Family:
Thank you for being the best of Bee-lievers. To Jax and Mama and Papa Buzz and the gang, too many to list, who have given of their time and donated resources to Bring Back The Buzz. Thank you for talking us down, building us up, and catching us when we fall. Thank you for following us around and embarrassing yourselves for the cause. When all this is said and done, it will be all about you and the memories we share –we love you guys!
Well …that about covers it. We’re all in this together folks…just trying to Bring a little Buzz Back to the City we love. OK Charlotte –Let’s SWARM!!!!!!!!!!!
Sincerely,
Evan and Scotty Kent Bring Back The Buzz
