The difference between feeling like we have won and knowing: #BringBacktheBuzz

Image

We Beelieve and Bring Back the Buzz would  like to make 2 simple requests out of all True Beelievers this morning. Depending on your internet speed, they MIGHT take a total of 90 seconds. If you could SHARE this, it’d be appreciated!:

1) Visit the Charlotte Bobcats Facebook page. Politely, succinctly, let them know how important the return of the Hornets brand is to you. I’ve attached a fun photo if you’d like to use it.

2) If you haven’t already, sign our Charlotte Hornets 2.0 Petition. If you have signed it, invite 5 or 10 friends to sign…we’re creeping up on 11,000!!!

Yesterday’s news makes it FEEL like we’re zeroing in on a victory, gang. However, FEELING and KNOWING, as we’ve all come to understand, are two entirely different states of mind. I don’t know about y’all, but I plan on keeping the pressure on until Hugo the Hornet is descending from the rafters opening night.

Y’all know what to do…

SWARM!

Cracking the Jordan Code: the last clues are falling into place

Image

The definition of a “code” is, a  system of words, letters, figures, or other symbols used to represent others, esp. for the purposes of secrecy.

That “Jordan Code” is now APPEARING to be easier to decipher. The decision on whether to keep the name, Charlotte Bobcats has till now remained a mystery.  The Bobcats have been very quiet, and understandably so, since another franchise is currently using that name. I expect that that silence will continue until 4/17, when the Hornets name is officially up for grabs. Recently, we have seen the purging of Charlotte Bobcats colored Jordans at the Heat game, an announcement of a “Town Hall” meeting on 4/15 with the future NBA commissioner Adam Silver, and the signaled dropping of an entire teal and purple Jordan line also on 4/17, coinciding with the end of the Charlotte Bobcats season.

Today, a friend of mine received an invitation from the Charlotte Bobcats to  attend a presentation about “the Bobcats future” to be made prior to the last game, next Wednesday (he received 2 tickets and I will be attending). Thursday, 4/18, the day after the season is over, the Charlotte Bobcats will host and Open House…the final clues seem to be falling into place.

As in the past, we caution you that this may be one giant, big, huge, coincidence, OR  we are on the brink of becoming the Charlotte Hornets!!!

Either way,  this Saturday’s final SILENT SWARM has now become VERY  important.

We remind you that we have been wrong before,  but…we have also been right

The Hornets Effect

image

As I sit in the library reading article after article written by other NBA franchise citiy’s papers discussing their upcoming games against the Bobcats, I grow more and more frustrated by our situation. One jokes about the game like why worry about it, lets focus on the next match up. Another takes it more serious but talks as if they feel sorry for OUR franchise. The next discusses our potential and youth and how in years to come we will be better. NONE of them analytically address the game that is coming the night of the articles’ conceptions!
As I log off the computer I am swept by this feeling of utter HOPELESSNESS . I stand up and subconsciously scan the rows of computers in front of me and what do I see?…4 Charlotte Hornets hats scattered throughout the room. A smile creeps on my face and I decide to go up to each person and find out their stories. Here I am Mr. Bring Back The Buzz (friends jokingly appointed name) wearing a Bobcats hat. This is gonna be interesting.
The first one is a husky guy, late twenties, obviously a graduate student hard at work. I talk to Chris for a good 10 minutes. In this time I found out how his father use to take him to Hornets games growing up and that he lost his interest in the NBA early into the 2nd season of the Bobcats. Surprisingly not for lack of skill on the team but from the absense of emotional connection with the young franchise. Of course I ask him about the possible rebrand and how he felt about it. He becomes reanimated with this new topic and he says “They could count me as a fan!”
I shake hands and say goodbye to Chris and walk over to two gentlemen sitting close to one another. While I talk to these two guys, they tell me that they are both in an English class and got assigned a group project together. They both arrived at the library simultaneously adorned in Charlotte Hornets hats. They are both Bobcats fans excited for a fresh start and identity that means something to the city they both were born and raised in. The average fans emotion. Very similar to me!
Finally I walk up to a very pretty brunette sitting by herself perusing Facebook. I ask her about the hat and she tells me that it is her boyfriend’s hat (who is from Hickory) and that she stole it from him. I laugh and ask her why she took this treasured good from her boyfriend. She says that even tho it is his favorite hat she just loves the colors and hes just going to have to deal with the fact that is hers now.
As I leave the library I look back on the encounters I just had and realize. Wow, I just ran into every type of fan there is. You have the “Old Purist”, “The Thick and Thins” and the “Bandwagon Rider”! This movement caters to every type! This is Charlotte Hornets 2.0
I push through the double doors with a renewed sense of HOPE and hits me, that’s “The Hornets Effect”

Do You Bee-Lieve? Prove it. The #silentSWARM takes over Charlotte on 4.13.13

Alright, True Beelievers, we’re officially only 3 weeks away from what very well may be our last ‘Swarm’ event ever. We’ve gotten the details ironed out, and it should be another magical evening, but only if you make it happen!

Please…take a couple seconds to SHARE this with your pals, and do what you can to get as many folk on board as possible! The best thing you can do is to click the ‘invite friends’ button on the event page, and invite as many folk as you can. These things only work if we all band together. Y’all have been nothing short of amazing to this point…let’s end this season (and hopefully the ‘B**Cats’ brand) on a high note!

We’ll have a free pregame keg (courtesy of Carolina Nightlife: Charlotte) at Fitzgerald’s Charlotte. We’re getting a $5 ‘Bottomless Cup’ deal at TILT for the afterparty. Myself and Bring Back the Buzz will naturally have gear for you and your pals if you need it. Basically, it’s going to be the most excellent way to spend a Saturday night EVER. Just snag the best seat you can swing (there are still oodles of really affordable lower levels, and tons of dirt cheap uppers), wear your teal and purple, and cheer like mad for the home team.

Y’all know what to do…

SWARM.

#BringBacktheBuzz and We Beelieve’s 4th and final “Silent Swarm”

image
The 3 “Swarm Time Warner” events we’ve organized over the past year have been some of the most joyful, important moments in the 3 year history of this wacky little Movement. Not a day goes by that a diehard True Beeliever doesn’t ask us or John from “We Beelieve” when we’re pulling together the next one.

We’ve also spoken directly with the Charlotte Bobcats on numerous occasions (no bigwigs; don’t worry…we’re not holding out on y’all ;). Here’s the gist of of their response: they love our enthusiasm. They love the attention we’ve brought to the squad. They wouldn’t trade the energy and support we bring to the arena for anything. That being said: they get it. The front office gets it. In their (and frankly, our) opinion, we’ve kind of done what we can do with the ‘Swarm’ format. Anybody who was there knows: we were loud but respectful; we were organized and unified, but it felt like we were “everywhere”. It was just as perfect as we could’ve hoped (especially the last one).

All things considered, it’d be pretty close to impossible to top.

Now, even though that may be the case, we thought it’d be nice to do a little something to close out the season (and hopefully the “‘Cats” brand) in style. Our last weekend home game is Saturday, April 13th against the Milwaukee Bucks. We have a group of 10-15 True Beelievers that’re planning to get together, wear our teal and purple, and come out in support of the home team. A “Silent Swarm” , if you will. But don’t let the title mislead you; we’ll be as loud and as proud as ever. We just thought it’d be a good idea, here at what very well may be the end of Charlotte’s B**Cats’ era, to drop any sort of perceived divisiveness that our coordinated chants/section takeovers might’ve engendered within the minds of the uninitiated. Simply put: we want and come together one last time in support of our Cats (before they become our Bugs :).

And we’d positively LOVE IT if as many of y’all as possible would join us. Here’s the plan: buy as good a seat as you can afford (right now, there are lower level seats available for as little as $17, and uppers available for as little as $1.50 on StubHub!), wear your teal and purple, and get rowdy for the “Cats”, one last time. No coordinated chants, no overt acts of what might be misconstrued as ‘defiance’. Just pure, unadulterated support for OUR team.

It’s been a rocky relationship for the B**Cats in the Queen City from the start; that much is undeniable. But through each and every one of their semi-annual uniform updates, one thing has remained constant: the all said CHARLOTTE across the chest (well, the ‘away’ jerseys, anyway…y’all get my drift ;). That fact alone has been what’s carried me through the rough patches with this franchise. And you know what? All that struggle is what’s going to make Hugo’s triumphant return that much sweeter.

I hope most of y’all feel the same.

APRIL 13th.

Bee There 🙂

If you were watching the History Channel last night you got to see the “Hornets2013 Charlotte – Take Back Our Buzz” commercial by Blackhawk Hardware. They were nice enough to create a series of commercials that will be airing within the Charlotte region promoting the name change.

They have also created a website called http://www.hornets2013.com that comprises both our movement and the We Beelieve: Charlotte…take back your Hornets! on one page.
